Hello, I’m Tom!

I thought I’d make this website to share some of my work and what goes on “inside the head of Tom Shepherd”! I’m a Liverpool born aspiring writer that hopes one day to have published work.

I love writing and enjoy disappearing into a story, getting to know my characters and building the world around them. Outside of writing I love going for walks, visiting several-hundred coffee shops and spoiling (overfeeding) my dog, Tilly!

Now I’m my thirties I feel it is time to look at following my dreams of becoming a published author and put my creative mind to use!

I like writing adventure, sci-fi and fiction in particular. I like to go beyond reality whilst keeping the human side present. It doesn’t matter what century you’re in, you’re grandmother is always going to tell you lose some weight or get a haircut!

I also enjoy writing poetry, I think it’s a brilliant way to unravel how you’re feeling sometimes by putting in into words. It’s the best way (in my opinion) to express your emotions.

Another thing I like to do is to write short stories. Sometimes you just want to share a story but don’t quite need seventy-thousand words to tell it. I enjoy popping in and out of worlds, sometimes leaving the reader to imagine what happens next.

One aspect of my writing that some of you may notice is that I enjoy using familiar surroundings. Most of my stories are set in a workplace (normally at the beginning before the protagonist’s life gets exciting). As well as that I like having my character’s living within or very heavily based in the city I’ve grown up in, Liverpool.

I’m currently working on a novel and really enjoying where it is going. As I am writing this I am halfway through my third draft and finding (a lot) of grammatical errors. I’m hoping it all comes together in the end and I can get it send to a editor who can completely obliterate it (in the best way).

Me and Tilly taking a walk!

That’s all for now, I hope you enjoy looking through some of my work!
